El Bierzo es una comarca de transición entre Galicia y Castilla, con viñedos en pendiente y suelos de pizarra. Da tintos de Mencía distintos a los del resto de España: más frescos, con fruta roja y un punto mineral, y menos pesados de lo que se espera de un tinto.
También es tierra de Godello, un blanco con más cuerpo que el Albariño y notas de fruta madura. Los tintos de Mencía funcionan muy bien ligeramente frescos, en torno a 15 grados, sobre todo en verano.
