In 2015, the UN approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, an opportunity for countries and their societies to embark on a new path to improve the lives of all people, leaving no one behind. The Agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which state that poverty eradication must go hand in hand with strategies that promote economic growth and address a range of social needs such as education, health, social protection, and employment opportunities, while combating climate change and protecting the environment.
The private sector is called upon to play a central role in this roadmap, which is both a responsibility and an unprecedented opportunity to align business objectives with those of equity and sustainability.
Each organization must identify the SDGs directly associated with its company or industry and establish them as priority objectives.
Our family winery group has identified 4 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aligned with our sector and our values:
6. Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Water demand has outpaced population growth, and half of the world's population currently experiences severe water scarcity for at least one month a year.
Marqués del Atrio has established protocols, controls, and improvement targets to promote the efficient use of water resources and eliminate any risk of contamination. Discharges have been reduced, and water purification has been promoted, with all treated water being used for agricultural purposes.
9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
Economic growth, social development, and climate action depend heavily on investments in infrastructure, sustainable industrial development, and technological progress.
Marqués del Atrio always keeps people's safety in mind, both regarding their presence in the wineries and the products they consume. It has modernized its infrastructure, adopted clean technology, and invested in innovation across all quality control processes.
12. Responsible production and consumption.
Our planet is running out of resources, but the population growth rate continues to increase. If we continue at this pace, we could need the equivalent of almost three planets to provide the natural resources necessary to sustain current lifestyles by 2050.
Marqués del Atrio has adopted sustainable practices internally, but also externally, by incorporating sustainable criteria in supplier management, which is the way to progressively expand awareness and global sustainable commitment.
16. Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
An efficient rule of law must also guarantee access to justice for all. Currently, two-thirds of the world's population lacks meaningful access to justice due to severe cases of conflict, violence, corruption, and ungovernability.
Marqués del Atrio contributes its grain of sand by being very transparent and creating and innovating new communication and information channels, both internally and, above all, for all buyers and consumers of our products, wherever they are geographically.
