Our Story

More than 120 years of family tradition

The history of Marqués del Atrio Group begins in 1899, when Olegario Rivero founded a small winery in the heart of Arnedo (La Rioja), starting a journey that has been passed down from generation to generation.

In its origins, wine was made by hand and sold locally, first in wineskins and later in botas, reflecting a way of understanding wine deeply linked to the land, the craft, and the people.

OLEGARIO RIVERO – 1st Generation

Throughout the Cidacos Valley, the term “calado” refers to caves dug as shelters in the clay-limestone rock during the Middle Ages.

In 1899, OLEGARIO RIVERO founded an underground winery in Arnedo, located in one of these calados, where he made and stored wine.

In the most recent phase, the group has experienced significant international expansion, bringing its wines to markets all over the world and establishing itself as one of the relevant groups within the Spanish wine landscape.
Today, the fifth generation continues to lead the project, keeping the family legacy alive and projecting it into the future.
