Why is it an Unusual Rioja? - Because it's in Mendavia, a unique location. Because "2 cepas" refers to two grape varieties and two brothers. The grape varieties are Viura (a traditional indigenous grape) and white Tempranillo (the novelty, a highly prized and rare grape), and the brothers are Manuel and Jorge, 5th Generation of the Rivero Family, who want Marqués del Atrio to be one of the most innovative contemporary wineries in Rioja. This aged white, matured for 10 months in French oak with periodic bâtonnage, is a tribute to the highly valued Rioja white reservas of the past. An aged white wine.

TERROIR

The vineyard from which its grapes originate is located in Eastern La Rioja, specifically in the Mendavia area. Its geographical location is privileged, as it combines, on the one hand, the moderating effect that the Ebro River has on temperature, in addition to being a terrain-forming agent influencing soil composition, and on the other hand, we find the Sierra de Codés, which is a continuation of the Cantabria mountain range, protecting us from excessive rainfall and extreme temperatures. These unique characteristics create a mild climate that allows for optimal grape ripening.

A white wine aged in new French oak barrels.

Upon arrival at the winery, the bunches are destemmed and gently pressed. Then, each variety is fermented separately in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
Subsequently, 5,000 liters are selected and aged for 10 months in new 225 and 500-liter French oak barrels.
We periodically carry out bâtonnage to stir the lees, thus contributing to a rounder mouthfeel.
Once aging is complete, both varieties are blended, seeking optimal expressiveness of the exceptional characteristics of each.
The result is a unique and extraordinary wine, complex and elegant, with much to reveal.

Today we tried your Doña Isabella Garnacha Rosé, special grand cuvee. It's an exceptional wine. The sweetness on the nose is surprising, and on the palate it transports you to the purest flavor of the grape, pure fruit, pure raisin, pure varietal. Thank you!

We enjoyed the Crianza at my niece-cousin’s communion. Very pleasant, versatile and well paired. I gladly recommend it.

Perfection and balance are the first things that come to mind when you taste this tremendous wine. An excellent Rioja, perfectly finished, extremely fine on tasting and very aromatic on the nose. A wine of impeccable category that you will never tire of enjoying again.

A great discovery both for the palate and for the mind: learning about the process and the variables that influence winemaking, and how the careful tending of the vines affects the fruit.

Specification Value
Tasting notes Sight: Straw yellow, clean and bright. Nose: Great expressiveness of fine and elegant aromas. Fruit predominates with fruity aromas such as pineapple or mango contributed by the Tempranillo Blanco, with light and fine touches from the Viura. Combined with dried fruit, vanilla, and toasted notes, provided by its time in French oak barrels. Palate: Silky and fresh, with good volume. Hints of ripe and tropical fruit. Persistent aftertaste that invites you to keep drinking. Food pairing: As an aperitif, or accompanying grilled fish, seafood, rice, and white meats.
